We are constantly inundated with ads and articles telling us that we are too fat, too skinny, too old, too fill-in-the-blank to be valuable and loved. As a human being, body image shaming makes me frustrated, as a massage therapist, it makes me livid. Sadly, I even have clients apologize to me while they are on the table, for a perceived flaw that they feel I might have to suffer through touching. When I see you, I see a beautifully intricate puzzle of muscles, fascia, bones, and joints.
I see the way you wince as you stand up from a chair, because of you lower back pain. I see the way you rub your temples, hoping for some relief from that 3-day headache. I see the way you walk around wide-eyed and on the verge of a breakdown, because the weight of the world is resting on your shoulders. I am a massage therapist. My job is to determine where your pain originates, and to do everything I can to eliminate it. My job is to help you figure out what activities aggravate your symptoms, and work with you to find alternatives so you can thrive.
